Augmented Reality (AR) – Technology that enhances.
AR enriches real environments with virtual objects - live and interactive. This results in many exciting use cases in areas such as continuing education, (remote) work support or even entertainment. The camera of a smartphone or special glasses captures the environment. An AR application uses this to play virtual effects or objects, creating an augmented reality.
With passion and enthusiasm for technology, the Chitin Software team develops individual AR solutions and applications. We bring together hardware, software and human creativity to create a unique AR experience. Find out more about our portfolio here:
Augmented Reality (AR) –

What does AR mean?
Spatially placed 3D objects are used to illustrate relationships clearly or explain them in a playful way. Even today, placing a model does not necessarily depend on the latest hardware. With the help of information markers such as QR codes, objects can be placed in space and tracked by an AR tracker using stored image recognition. To view an object from different perspectives, the user swivels their device around the object and thus places the tracker in a new orientation.
AR AND VR – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Although related in some respects, virtual reality (VR) must be distinguished from augmented reality (AR). VR is a purely virtual environment in which the real environment is not captured. This technology is also very exciting, but it produces significantly different use cases than AR.
WHAT HARDWARE IS NEEDED FOR AR?
Apple recently took an important step towards easily accessible AR solutions: The current generation of iPads and iPhones come with so-called LiDAR scanners integrated as standard. The LiDAR scanner is a depth gauge and determines the spatial dimensions in relation to the end device. With this scanner, the placement of 3D objects using an AR app is much easier and more stable than with tablets and smartphones before 2020. A sharp increase in the use of such applications is therefore to be expected, especially in industry and in the university sector.
Applications of augmented reality

Museums
Strolling through the museum with friends and family on the weekend... This is not just a way to pass the time, but also for cultural education. AR offers museums completely new opportunities to expand their educational potential with an innovative AR guide. This can bring exhibits to life through augmented reality - for example, by showing missing parts of an ancient statue or highlighting certain segments of a painting. Visual and auditory elements can be integrated.
By using this technology, museums can attract visitors and provide them with comprehensive information and an unforgettable experience.

vitueller Unterricht
What are the components of an atom? In which orbits do the planets in our universe move? We were given answers to many such questions during our school years. But all too often they are quickly forgotten. With AR in use, more sustainable learning success can be achieved in lessons today - because it conveys the subject as clearly and understandably as if it were right in front of the students. In this way, technical connections can be visualized in a playful and interactive way. The media competence of the students is strengthened by these new media.
AR gives schools and educational institutions the opportunity to take new didactic approaches and teach the respective material in a realistic and exciting way. Especially in the field of vocational training, this can bridge theory and practice better than previous learning formats.

Interior design
What should the new fitted kitchen, living room or next trade fair stand look like? Companies that offer interior design will find it easier to convince customers the more vivid the answer to this question is. AR offers the possibility of projecting a preview of furnishings into a real environment. Customers have the opportunity to put together and position the furnishings themselves.
AR makes the sales process easier and leads to greater satisfaction on both sides. With a customized app, furniture stores can enable their customers to develop clear ideas about their future space. This ensures greater satisfaction and opens up opportunities for cross-selling.
